The rapid evolution of AI technologies presents significant opportunities for increased efficiency and innovation in the American economy. Particularly, AI’s inclusion in the residential energy and appliance space has the potential to revolutionize our current understanding of home energy efficiency.
This report explores how AI and remote diagnostics can support small HVAC contractor business models, reduce costs of energy efficiency program implementation, and identify emerging AI use-cases in the residential energy sector. This research compiles insights from conversations with home performance contractors, program implementors, state energy office officials, and appliance manufacturers to explore AI’s current use and potential capabilities going forward. The reports findings indicate that not only are AI tools, remote diagnostics, and smart technology increasingly common within the home performance industry, but that they present an opportunity to reshape the residential energy efficiency industry as it exists today.
