From August 2 to August 7, ACEEE hosted their 2026 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings. AnnDyl’s Kara Saul Rinaldi and Doug Presley were invited to publish research papers to be presented at the conference.
Saul Rinaldi’s paper explores best practices for states implementing the Department of Energy (DOE)’s Home Energy Rebate Programs. At the point of writing, 12 states and DC had active rebate programs. The paper relies on the experiences and recommendations of contractors participating in these active programs. The paper also explores how DOE’s updates rebate guidance has the potential to address some of the concerns expressed by contractors.
Presley’s paper analyzes the National Laboratory of the Rockies’ ResStock and ComStock datasets to calculate the potential of geothermal heat pumps to reduce peak electricity demand across the residential and commercial building sectors nationwide. Presley also calculates the value of these peak reduction savings to the grid in avoided infrastructure costs.
